Vegan Patties?

Oh yes, vegan patties! In general, this is a phrase that I hear quite often, considering that many think that only animal patties are delicious, easy to make and low-cost. This is one of the myths that I wanted to disprove when I created this blog! The vegan patties that we will make today are very tasty, while they are low-cost and at the same time the ingredients that we will use are easy to find in a local supermarket. So, this is a great opportunity to try making a great meal for you, your friends and your family. I would also highly recommend it for a Sunday family dinner meal! Personally, I made these patties recently for non-vegan friends and long story short, we ended up needing more!

What makes soy patties special?

As I mentioned before, this recipe is very easy to make, as the ingredients can be found in any local store in your neighborhood. At the same time, it’s an easy to understand recipe, since I made sure the instructions to be short and simple. So, if this is your first attempt at vegan patties or you have recently made the transition to a vegan lifestyle, this recipe will surely be very easy for you. Are you ready to impress by creating delicious patties free of animal by-products?

Servings 15 patties

Ingredients

  • 200 g soy mince
  • 3 slices of bread (3x30g)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 5 tbsp. corn flour
  • 1 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp. bbq sauce
  • 4 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. Himalayan salt
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1 pinch of freshly ground pepper
  • parsley (as much as we want)

Instructions

  • We put the bread slices in a bowl and we soak them in water. We wait for 10 minutes.
  • At the same time, we add the soy mince in 2L of boiling water and we let it swell for 10 minutes.
  • We drain the soy mince in a colander and we make sure that as much liquid as possible is removed. We, also, use our hands to squeeze it.
  • We follow the same procedure for the bread in order to remove all the liquids.
  • We peel and finely chop the onion, the garlic and the parsley.
  • Then, we add the onion, the garlic, the parsley, the soy mince, the bread, the flour, the tomato paste, the bbq sauce, the olive oil and the spices to a large bowl and we mix them well with our hands until evenly distributed.
  • We add a piece of parchment paper in a pan and start to form medium-sized patties. We make sure that the patties do not touch each other. In case they do not fit in a pan, we add the rest later.
  • We bake for 40 minutes at 180 ° C, while turning them on both sides after the first 20 minutes.
  • We serve and enjoy!

Notes

Extra Tip 1: If you want to grate the onion in the grater, you must be very careful to remove the liquids that will come out, because we want as little liquids as possible, so our patties won’t break up. Therefore, I suggest you to chop it, as I mentioned before, so you can avoid this process.
Extra Tip 2: Combine your patties with the most delicious vegan tzatziki or choose the power of chickpeas by making the ultimate hummus!
