Apple: A beloved fruit since our childhood!

When I was a kid, I remember my parents trying to teach me how important fruits are for our health and that I should consume a certain amount of them daily. The truth is that I have always preferred pasta and pies, but never mind… Apples, both red and green, were among the fruits I chose to eat during the autumn and winter months of my childhood. This habit continues till today with the difference that I have now included many more fruits in my daily routine and I appreciate and enjoy them much more than in the past. Besides, my cooking has opened new avenues and now I use each ingredient uniquely in each recipe and create new, delicious, sweet, and savory meals.

Apple Molasses Marmalade

I generally like all kinds of marmalades. I usually use them either on bread, porrridge or overnight oats. Okay, there have been some rare occasions that I have eaten them with just a spoon, but it isn’t something that we will discuss at the momen. In this particular recipe I decided to replace the classic sugar and try to make it healthier for all those who don’t want granulated sugar or they just want to avoid it. So, I added molasses as a sweetener. Searching the internet and following the answers that some nutritionists gave me, I learned that molasses is considered as a superfood and has many positive effects on our health. More specifically, it increases the levels of iron, ferritin and hematocrit, helps boosting our body, while at the same time it is necessary for people who suffer from Mediterranean anemia. So today, we make an easy, delicious and nutritious apple marmalade that young and old will love for sure!
